WHAT IS A1C?

A1c, also called Glucosylated Haemoglobin, is a heteroprotein formed by the binding of haemoglobin and glucose molecules present in the blood.
The amount of A1c is used to monitor the average amount of glucose in the blood over a period of 2 to 3 months prior to sampling.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF A1C?

Unlike daily glucose measurement, which only provides a snapshot of the amount of sugar in the blood, A1c is the best parameter to ensure the control of your diabetes, as it allows you to assess whether or not the patient’s monitoring of the disease has been correct.

It is the ideal test to check the proper control of the disease and to monitor the effectiveness of the treatment.

Lowering A1C levels by 1% reduces the risk of developing complications such as:
– Retinopathy (eye damage) by 38%.
– Nephropathy (kidney damage) by 28%.
– Neuropathy (nerve damage) by 28%.
– Cardiovascular events (heart attack or stroke) by 57%
